Your script

Open, and name the number

Thanks for making the time. I'd like to talk about my pay.

Since my last review I've [the thing you delivered]. Based on [market rate, or the scope that has grown], I'm asking for [your number].

— then stop talking. Let the silence sit. Do not fill it.

If they say "let me think about it"

That's fair. Can we put a date in the diary to come back to it — would two weeks work?

And so I'm clear: is there anything you'd need to see from me before then?

If they say "there's no budget"

I understand the budget is set. Can we agree now on what would make this a yes when it opens?

If the number isn't movable this quarter, what else is — title, scope, days, or a review date in writing?

If they offer less than you asked

Thank you. That's closer. Can we meet at [your number]?

If not, I'd like to understand what would get me there, and by when.

Close it, whatever the answer

Thank you for taking it seriously. I'll send a short note summarising what we agreed.

— then actually send it, the same day, in writing.

The part that actually changes the outcome

Say it to someone who pushes back.

The script is the easy half. Rehearse it against an AI manager who says there is no budget, and find out what you do in the silence.

Questions about this tool

What do I actually say first?
Name the number and then stop talking. The script opens with one sentence of context, one sentence with your figure in it, and then silence. Most people lose the money in the sentence they add to fill the gap.
Should I give a number first?
In a pay review, yes — you are the one asking, so the number has to come from you. On a job offer you can ask for their range first, but if they press you, a researched figure with a reason behind it beats deflecting.
What if they say there is no budget?
Treat it as a date problem, not a no. The script gives you the line that turns it into an agreed set of conditions and a review date in the diary, which is far harder to forget than a vague 'we'll see'.
Is anything I type here stored?
No. The script is built in your browser and nothing is sent to us or saved. There is no sign-up.
